As one of two partners with an Ottawa labour and employment law firm, we have always applied a team approach to each case and we take pride on using our real-world negotiation and litigation experience to benefit clients.

I work on both sides of the employment relationship, with special emphasis on individual workers, small to mid-size employers and non-profits. This type of dual focus helps me to quickly understand where disputes are headed, for at one point or another, I have probably faced the issue from the other side.

For me one of the best parts of being a labour and employment lawyer is that my job is all about people. Unlike other areas of law, which involves complex corporate transactions or real estate deals, I get to learn and tell stories.

Stories about a small business struggling to understand the myriad regulations that apply to their workforce. Stories of a new mother fired the day after returning from maternity leave. Or stories of a non-profit attempting to attract the best talent in an ever-tightening job market.

In this sense, my work is all about helping people overcome real world, and readily understandable, challenges. It also allows a sense of fulfillment not easily found in any other vocation.

Being part of Emstrata Law provides me with a platform to bring this people-oriented approach to a wider variety of clients with a great group of lawyers. My experience with individuals who are effected by the day to day implications of employment law sheds important light for the group when considering the future implications of strategies and policies.
